What to Do If Your Prosthesis Does Not Fit Properly
By Georgia Prosthetics
Our mission is to provide patients with prosthetics without pain, which means ensuring a comfortable, natural-feeling fit. Today’s prosthetics are better than ever and enable patients to enjoy active lifestyles, but only when they fit properly.
A poorly fitting prosthesis can lead to pain and discomfort, damage to other parts of the body, and of course, frustration due to not being able to use the device.
If your prosthesis does not fit properly, here’s what to do.
-
If your prosthesis is new, you’ll likely need to come back for multiple adjustments during the first few weeks and months. This is especially true if it is the first prosthesis you have used; learning to use your new limb will take some time, so it may be difficult for you to tell right away whether you have a good fit.
-
As you begin using your prosthetic device, we can make any changes necessary to make sure you love the way it fits and functions.
-
If you have had your prosthetic device for a while, some adjustments will need to be made.
-
The fit of your prosthesis can change due to a number of factors, such as losing or gaining weight or muscle. The socket, the part of the prosthesis that attaches to the residual limb, can become worn out over time and may need to be replaced.
-
If you notice that your prosthesis has become too tight, too loose, or is simply uncomfortable, we encourage you to schedule an appointment.
In short, if your prosthesis doesn’t fit well and you need a prosthetic pain solution, we want you to tell us!
Georgia Prosthetics is focused on making sure our patients can enjoy the benefits of a great-fitting, pain-free prosthesis. Allow our team to make any the adjustments necessary to provide you with the best possible fit.
